On November 18, 2011, the Muslim, Arab and South Asian communities of New York took to the streets, joining with activists from the Occupy Wall Street protests to stand against NYPD/CIA repression of Muslims in New York City. Over 50 organizations joined together for the protest, which called for an end to racial, ethnic and religious profiling by police; the end of warrantless surveillance operations; an independent investigation into NYPD and CIA abuses; the protection of the right to worship; and equal protection under the law.
