International Day of Solidarity with Palestine, March on 2nd Ave between 42 and 43 streets
Date: Wednesday, November 29, 2000
Time: 4:00pm – 6:00pm
Place: In front of the Israeli Consulate at 2cnd Avenue between 42nd and 43rd street.
November 29 is designated by the United Nations as an International Day of Solidarity. We condemn the United Nations and the International Community for their failure to protect Palestinian civilians against constant, gross human rights violations by the Israeli state. We condemn the failure of the United Nations and the International Community to take action against the state of Israel, when they consistently violate international law. We declare this day INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SOLIDARITY WITH PALESTINE.
Al-AWDA celebrated November 29th by declaring it be its own International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Resistance. Solidarity messages from other liberation and resistance movements were received. Chants of Long Live Our Intifada and Long Live Palestine were a basic theme. Speakers stressed the similarity of their own movements. Racism in the U.S. was shown similar to Apartheid in Israel. Closures and refugee camps in Palestine were shown to be similar to Indian Reservations and South Africa’s Bantustans. Empowerment through solidarity was paramount. Strong ties to the Vieques Support Campaign were proudly increased through chants of Stop Testing in Vieques Stop Bombing in Palestine.
