In memoriam: Wade Doares

It is with a heavy heart that Al-Awda NY informs our comrades and friends of the passing of Wade Doares, the father of Bill Doares, a leader of Al-Awda NY since its founding.

Mr. Doares passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, after suffering a massive heart attack.

Bill is the most tireless activist Al-Awda NY has ever known, with over 40 years of organizing on behalf of workers and oppressed peoples around the world and in solidarity with the struggles for liberation in Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon and many other places. Respected and loved by many in the Palestinian community, Bill is the most thoughtful and considerate of his comrades, and we call on all our friends throughout the world to share their love and support with Bill at this moment.

Wade Doares was a quiet man from the South who supported Bill’s work throughout the decades. He spoke softly, courteously and patiently in the style of a generation which valued strong work ethics, humility and kindness in dealing with neighbors. Mr. Wade Doares affectionately and patiently accepted all people into his home and into his life. He loved people, flowers and old tunes, and most of all his devoted son Bill and his wife of 60 years Juanita Doares whom he leaves behind along with a throng of people who loved his family. May he rest in peace.

We will send more information about arrangements for messages of condolence and support as they develop.
