DEMAND DIRECT ELECTIONS TO THE PALESTINE NATIONAL COUNCIL
The campaign calling for Palestinian democratic representation is currently underway. In addition to actions at PLO embassies, hunger strikes, sit-ins, vigils, and marches, community meetings have been held in London, Rome, the camps and towns in Lebanon and Palestine, and elsewhere in the Arab world, Europe and Latin America.
US Palestinian Community Network, along with Palestinian organizations across the United States, are coordinating a National Calendar of Palestinian Movement Assemblies Towards Democratic National Representation.
Palestinian Movement Assemblies are the first crucial step in mobilizing and building our collective voice for our national demand to determine the direction of our movement for liberation and return. They are rooted in the principle that our movement gains legitimacy and direction from Palestinian communities themselves.
Assemblies are nationally coordinated, yet locally organized and facilitated. They will be participatory and democratic, open to all political orientations, and all community members and organizations. We will listen to each other, and discuss collectively our demand for national democratic representation, in the spirit of national rejuvenation—best exemplified in the uprisings all over the Arab world.
Palestinian Movement Assemblies will be held throughout the summer and autumn as part of an ongoing national campaign that will echo demands from Palestinians across the shatat and in the homeland.
Cities will continue to be added as they are confirmed. If you would like to organize or coordinate a meeting in your community, please contact USPCN [firstname.lastname@example.org] for support and facilitation.
