Israel’s November massacre in Gaza exposed not just the brutality of Israel’s colonial occupation of Palestine, but the potential of mass resistance to stop a ground invasion and wider war.  Despite the horrific toll on Gaza’s people and infrastructure, Operation Pillar of Cloud is widely seen as a political defeat for Israel, the closest US ally in the Middle East.

Yet the ongoing occupation of Palestine also raises bigger questions about the shifting balance of forces in the region since the revolutionary upheavals brought down dictators in Tunisia and Egypt. This forum with left-wing writers and activists from Palestine, Egypt, Syria and the United States will take up questions such as Palestinians’ right to resist, the current state of the Egyptian revolution, the way forward for Syrian revolutionaries and how solidarity activists in the United States can support the right to self-determination for the people of the new Middle East. An open discussion will follow their brief presentations.
